350 Chicago has seen many changes and much growth over the past 3 years. We have won a great victory with our Chicago divestment campaign and launched our Illinois State Divestment Campaign. We have organized or co-organized many successful actions including the Fossil Free Federal Reserve, the January 20th and June 9th actions in 2023 to demand President Biden Declare a Climate Emergency(Death to Fossil Fuels) and collaborations in 3 Climate Strikes with the youth leaders at Friday's for Future and the Chicago Climate Youth Coalition and many other groups. We have joined the People vs. Fossil Fuels coalition and have been asked to become a member of the 350 Network Council, a working affiliation of the 10 - 12 largest 350 chapters across the United States.
For the past 10 years, 350 Chicago has worked hard to make a big impact in Chicago and Illinois in the fight against the climate crisis. Our goal has always been to make a difference in the fight through policy, action, advocacy and outreach. Yet, with the fight to end the climate crisis intensifying, 350 Chicago will need to determine the future direction of the organization and the fights to undertake over the coming years.
To help determine the future of 350 Chicago, it is important that the volunteers of 350 Chicago gather in a retreat to make some decisions about the direction of the organization.
I will be convening a committee to plan that retreat to discuss that very future. 350 Chicago Volunteers willing to join the committee will begin the process of determining the date of the retreat, create the agenda and develop all the logistics to host the retreat.
I have set up our initial meeting for Wednesday, October 25th at 7 PM.
If you would like to participate in the preparations for the retreat, please email [email protected]. Once I receive your RSVP, I will send you the link to the Zoom meeting.
I look forward to seeing you there to help in the process of planning the retreat.
In solidarity,
Larry Coble
President, 350 Chicago Board of Directors
