A 6.3 magnitude earthquake hit Herat province, Afghanistan, on Saturday, killing over 2,000 people. Hundreds remain missing in the rubble. The earthquake struck 25 miles northwest of Herat at around 11:00 a.m. local time. Many of the structures in the region are made of mud and collapsed upon impact. The Taliban has estimated that over 1,300 houses have been completely or partially destroyed.
