URGENT ACTION NEEDED: Tell Congress to support safe, sustainable public schools and ensure a bright future for our young people!

Many of our public schools are underfunded and under-resourced. Students try to learn in crowded classes and outdated buildings – some without working AC. In some cases, students and staff are regularly exposed to environmental hazards like mold and asbestos.

The good news is that Senator Ed Markey and Representative Jamaal Bowman just re-introduced a bill to change all that: the Green New Deal for Public Schools Act. This legislation would provide desperately needed funding to support our students and teachers, including upgrading every school building in the country to create healthy, zero-carbon and accessible learning environments.

Please, Friend, take just 30 seconds to support our students and staff in public schools. Tell Congress to create jobs and green our schools by passing the Green New Deal for Public Schools Act! >>

Friends of the Earth partnered with the sponsors to ensure that the bill also includes resources for healthy, climate-friendly school meals, including more plant-based school meal options. All students deserve access to nutritious meal options, and more plant-based meals on the menu will reduce the climate-warming emissions created by industrial meat production that are putting young people’s futures in peril.

The Green New Deal for Public Schools Act will fund millions of good-paying jobs in every school district in the country. It’s past time we rebuild our schools and fully invest in the next generation. Will you send your message to Congress and fight for green, safe schools for our nation’s students?
