As a Medical Assistant with Kaiser, my colleagues and I put it all on the line for our patients and for each other. We do this job to help people, but the executives at Kaiser Permanente care more about their bottom line than the safety of our patients.
Long hours and short staffing have left us stretched thin, worn out, and fed up, with many of us leaving for other jobs.
It doesn't have to be this way. How do I know? Kaiser reported $24 BILLION in profit over the past five years and already $3 BILLION in the first six months of this year. They can afford safe staffing levels.
We have repeatedly tried to raise our concerns with Kaiser executives but they refuse to listen and are bargaining in bad faith with us.

The math is simple, and those of us who went on strike know it: record profits should mean record contracts that invest in workers and the patients we serve.
Workers are rising up to take back power across the country. Auto workers, writers and directors in Hollywood, Starbucks and other fast-food workers, airport and hotel workers, and healthcare workers like me are all fighting to be respected, protected, and paid. I'm helping patients with real health problems, not just trying to pad the bank accounts of Kaiser executives.
It's #SolidaritySeason, and we know that we are more powerful when all workers fight together. That's why there have been more strikes in 2023 than at any time in the past 40 years. And if Kaiser executives won't come to the table soon and bargain in good faith, we are prepared to go on strike again to protest the company's unfair labor practices.
