Hi John, 



You haven’t heard from me for a while - when I left politics, I wanted to make sure that I left the stage for those who have taken on the huge job of leading our Party and the Government. But in the last few weeks I have been asked my opinion on the election, and so I wanted to share that with you.



Every election I have voted in has been an MMP election. I am proud that New Zealanders have made this system their own, and put so much thought into their election choices. But for all the complexity of MMP, how we vote should always come back to what we believe in.



And I believe in Labour.

WATCH NOW <[link removed]>I believe that New Zealand can and should keep reducing child poverty. We have made huge gains for kids in our lowest-income households. But those gains will be lost unless we have a Labour government.



I believe that New Zealand can and should keep taking action on climate change. Our emissions are coming down, but we need to keep investing in climate initiatives if we want to keep making progress. That investment won’t happen unless there is a a Labour Government.



I believe that New Zealanders deserve a strong health system, and our children deserve the possible best education system. But these are the very services that always take a hit when other parties campaign on unfunded election promises. Only Labour will continue to invest in the core services New Zealanders rely on.



And finally, I believe in Chris Hipkins and the Labour team. I have worked with them, and I know them – that’s why I can tell you that they are in it for you.
