Dear John,
We are still just beginning to learn the full extent of the horrors brought upon innocent men, women, and children by the brutal invasion of Hamas terrorists into southern Israel.
As of this writing, 1,300 have been confirmed killed, including nine Americans. Thousands have been injured and at least 150 hostages were taken. Rescue efforts are racing against the clock.
The Jewish community around the world is reeling from the news. Such devastation and loss of life goes beyond anything we've seen in Israel in the last 50 years.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's resolutely declared yesterday that Israel did not start this war, but they will finish it.
These volatile times across the globe require great leadership.
However, here in the United States, rather than great leadership, we are saddled with the feckless Biden administration that just weeks ago brokered a hostage swap with Iran that included the release of $6 billion in oil money that had been frozen to the regime.
As the world's largest state sponsor of terror and long-time supporters of Hamas, is it any wonder that Iran would be emboldened by this promised influx of cash to approve and support the Hamas invasion of Israel?
Yet, while the Biden administration faces questions of culpability, the House of Representatives is effectively paralyzed by its vacant Speaker's office. There is currently a draft resolution of support for Israel in the House, but nothing can be done to advance the cause of Israel or anything else without a Speaker in place.
There are many calls to prayer right now amongst believers for Israel and the Jewish people. And rightfully so!
However, I want to challenge you to also pray earnestly for Congress.
It may not have been a catalyst as this attack by Hamas has been months in planning, but the paralysis that descended upon the Congress with the ouster of Speaker Kevin McCarthy could have been the opening Hamas was looking for.
This void of leadership on Capitol Hill emboldens the enemies of freedom and democracy around the world to wreak havoc.
The question now is, will the Republicans come together this week and select a leader?
The need is urgent. As Representative Mark Alford of Missouri shared Monday evening on Washington Watch,
"For us not to have a leader in the White House who can sit behind the Resolute Desk and be resolute in his thinking and his speech is a disgrace to the United States of America. In the same vein, we must have a leader soon in the Speaker's position that can lead us forward with clarity, determination, a strength for Israel, more support for Israel to rebuild their Iron Dome, and just a more resolute, unified force that will guarantee Israel and guarantee their future."
I've had several calls with members of Congress over the last few days as FRC is engaging with them on the pressing problems facing our nation and our allies. They are asking for our prayers!
John, will you join me in letting them know you are answering their call to pray for Congress?
The Republican conference will be meeting this week starting Wednesday, October 11 to select a Speaker. Our goal is to gather thousands of pledges to pray from brothers and sisters in Christ like you by MIDNIGHT TONIGHT that I can deliver tomorrow morning to the Republicans.
There's not a moment to lose.
Please click here to add your name to the Prayer Pledge for House Leadership which states:
The events this weekend in Israel are yet another reminder of why the world needs a strong United States of America. To defend the security of both Israel and America, it is paramount that we have a strong and resolute Congress. We are praying for you that you will elect a strong, America First, pro-Israel Speaker of the House, guided by the Holy Spirit with prudence and swiftness. We are also praying that you would be blessed with God's wisdom and grace as you navigate the challenges ahead to ensure the safety and prosperity of both the United States and our allies abroad.
Thank you in advance for joining me in prayer for our leaders to have wisdom in this hour and for comfort the families of those who have lost loved ones in the attacks.
Standing (Eph. 6:13),
Tony Perkins President
P.S. Please help us rally more believers to pray for the House of Representatives to elect a conservative, pro-Israel, America-first Speaker by sharing this email with your family, friends, and church members. Thank you!
