Dear John,

While I am sad and trying to cope, I’ll be honest. I am angry. I am angry with the world that allowed the dehumanization of Israelis and sanitized the terrorism of Hamas. I must say, I love this show and I love this network. But I’ve gotta ask... who is writing the scripts? Hamas? The people who did this. They are not fighters ... They are not militants... They are terrorists. They are barbarians.

Jonathan Greenblatt on MSNBC

I said that yesterday on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. It’s a show I have been on many times before, but I have never been as frustrated with the media as I have been with that network and with so many other news outlets who are distorting the portrayal of the barbaric massacre of the largest number of Jews killed and injured in one day since the Holocaust.

At a time when we should all be focused on support for the state and people of Israel and in providing aid to the humanitarian efforts on the ground and on Israel’s efforts to rescue those who remain in Hamas’ cruel hands, these media distortions add to a dangerous environment.

SPEAK OUT NOW

Sign this ADL petition now. Tell the media to do better in this time of crisis. They must call Hamas the terrorist organization they are, rather than depicting them as militants or a resistance to Israel.

I Demand the Media Cover Israel and Hamas Accurately

ADL is fully mobilized. We are monitoring extremists and antisemitic acts and will support the Israeli and Jewish community against these and other threats. We are working with law enforcement and with partner organizations to protect you and our communities.

Speak up in your homes and communities. One way to do so is with this new ADL discussion guide to help your family talk about the unspeakable horror of the Hamas attack.

Attacks on the Jewish state are known to prompt harassment, vandalism and violence against Jews in the U.S. and worldwide. We have already started seeing support for Hamas at rallies across the U.S. We see white supremacists and other extremists celebrating the attack as heroic. And on the social media channels where people are gathering to make sense of the war, we have seen a surge of antisemitism, misinformation and disinformation.

You can find all of these resources and stay up to date on the latest ADL information at adl.org/standwithisrael.

Tomorrow, we will share more updates on the crisis, with a focus on anti-Israel protests and how anti-Zionist gatherings on campus can threaten the sense of safety for Jewish students.

In this horrifying and exhausting time, we must join together to share strength. Thank you for all you are doing now and in the days and weeks ahead to support Israel and fight hate for good.

In solidarity,
