| Dear Friend, Today and tomorrow are Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days, and the corporation’s website is full of listings at 40%, 50%, 60% off. But it’s the rest of us who are paying the price. An FTC lawsuit was just released showing that Amazon made more than one billion dollars on us, raising prices across the internet with a secret algorithm targeting consumers.(1) The Senate is holding hearings about how OSHA has a decade’s worth of complaints of worker injuries that the corporation has just ignored.(2) And the multibillion-dollar company continues to ignore the demands of the drivers that it has been abusing for months across California.(3) So on this Prime Day, don’t reward Amazon’s bad behavior! Instead, donate what you would have spent to support the workers and demand Amazon shape up.
How was Amazon able to raise prices on us by a billion dollars and still undercut competitors? 🤯 By forcing its drivers to meet inhumane quotas with no bathroom breaks while driving vans lacking air conditioning and not enough water.(4) 🤯 By running warehouses where the injury rate is DOUBLE the rate of other warehouses.(5) 🤯 By stealing product designs and rigging search results in its favor against the sellers forced to use its platform.(6) Amazon has been abusing us all, and as long as we keep buying in on Prime Days, we are complicit. But today, we can not only refuse to join in, we can spend the money on helping the workers that are standing up to the retail giant.
