John,
Every year, I walk across the state — nearly a hundred miles over about 5 days — to meet with Connecticut residents and listen to their unfiltered thoughts and priorities.
Every year, people share with me their most pressing concerns - lack of housing, gun violence, climate change, child care affordability, just to name a few. It’s my favorite week of the year, and it helps ground the work I do back in Washington.
But over the last few years, a new growing concern has emerged – alarm over the very survival of our democracy. Anxiety over Republican extremism, right-wing violence, the prospects of a second Trump presidency are top issues for people in every corner of our state.
What I share with these people, and what I’d like to share with you today, is this simple message: we have the power to protect our democracy. What this requires is an all-hands-on-deck effort to defeat Donald Trump and right-wing extremism at every level of government.
As President Biden has repeated, the soul of America is at stake in 2024 and beyond. To ensure our democracy and the values that define us as Americans persevere, we need to all step up and do our part.
The simplest, yet most important way we can do this is by voting – in this year's municipal elections AND in next year’s presidential race. Will you join me and fellow Connecticut Democrats in making the pledge to vote in 2023 and 2024?
