John,

I’m sure you’re following the chaos that has ensued in Washington these past couple of weeks, but if you haven’t, here’s a quick recap:

After nearly shutting down the government, fringe Republicans led by Rep. Matt Gaetz ousted Kevin McCarthy from his speakership position.

Considering it took McCarthy 15 rounds of voting back in January to even become Speaker, the GOP’s failure to effectively govern and lead shouldn’t surprise anyone.

And my opponent Ken Calvert has been part of the problem. He voted for the most extreme Continuing Resolution put on the floor of the House which, if passed, would have taken a wrecking ball to local law enforcement and working class families in Riverside County. Then, with Congress now in limbo after McCarthy’s removal, Calvert and his far-right allies left Washington and left Congress in a state of disarray.

It’s moments like these that remind us why Congress has a lower approval rating than a root canal. Here’s my take: we need leaders who will actually lead. Government isn’t about theatrics and partisan games. It’s about delivering results for the folks they represent.

I want to hear your thoughts on the dysfunction happening in Washington, so I’m hoping you’ll take our October Issues and Strategy Survey »
