Over the past weeks, I’ve written about our Victorian Heritage Festival, the Old Timers luncheon, NHS Homecomings, along with Cider Mills in the area. This week, we will recognize those being inducted in the Northville Athletic Hall of Fame. The “Hall of Fame” honors Northville High School’s top student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and teams who have:
* MADE A POSITIVE IMPACT on the local community
* EARNED SUCCESS on and off the field
* SERVED AS ROLE MODELS for today’s student-athletes.

* Witches Night Out – 10/12, 6-9pm, Downtown Northville – Spook-tastic evening of shopping at your favorite downtown small businesses. Giveaways, Music, Costume Contests, and More!

* Chris Cronin: Varsity Coach ‘94 – 21. Boys & Girls XC, Girls Track, Girls & Boys Golf, Coach of the Year Girls Golf/MITCA, Regional Coach of the Year - 4 State Championship teams.
* Chloe Abbott: Track & Field ‘13-16. All-State, Conference, & Region in multiple events, MHSAA record holder in 400M, Current Record Holder NHS 100M, 200M, 400M & 4x400
* John Stuyvenberg: State Champion Long Jump 1970 & 1971, Longest standing Track & Field record of 53 years, All-State, Region, Conference, and All League 100M, 200M & Long Jump.
* Jim Porterfield: Athlete of the Year ’74. Football All-Conference, All Area, Co-player of Year Sliger papers, selected to All-Century football team. Track & Field ‘70-74, Record holder for shot put, Wrestling - All league, All Area. Coach NHS Track & Field
* Brandon Langston: ’98-’01. Athlete of Year GVSU & NHS Football (All State, Conference, Area) and All Detroit Metro Basketball, All Area honorable mention, Track & Field (All -State, Region, Conference; Coaching - Football ’06,’11-16 (Coach of Year ’12-13), Basketball ’08-’14,, Track & Field ’12-16 and 2020
* Doc Mandell: Lifetime Achievement Award, Member Michigan High School Football Hall of Fame, Northville Man of the Year 1974, Northville Team physician 1970’s – 1990’s. School Board.
* Emily Carbott: Athlete of the Year 2001, Basketball - MVP, All league ’00 & 01 (1^st Team all area). Soccer – All-State, Region, District, Conference - Hometown newspaper player of the year!
* Danielle Toney: ’04-07 - Soccer (Captain). All American, All- State, District, League - Parade America Soccer Athlete of the Year/ Gatorade Player of the Year/ Michigan Miss Soccer. Penn State standout in soccer… NHS Basketball MVP
* 2013 Girls Cross Country Team: Coach Nancy Smith – Team earned Conference, Regional & a State Championship (First Girls XC State Championship). Undefeated in Dual meets, 4 All-State Athletes, 7 All-Conference Student/Athletes
As the Mayor of Northville, I congratulate all the Athletes, as well as their families & friends, for being part of this year’s class for the Northville Athletic Hall of Fame. Know that I speak for all Northvillians as I say, “We appreciate all that they’ve meant to our town … this Hamlet in the Hills, this Switzerland of the County that we call Northville.”
I would also like to thank all the Coaches, High School Athletic Staff and the Hall of Fame Directors for establishing this institution commemorating Northville’s exceptional student-athletes. We honor and recognize each of them for their pursuit of sports excellence and representing Northville as ambassadors of goodwill.
