Hi John,
Advocates for Youth is thrilled to present the next training in our Act Out! campaign tomorrow, October 11th, for National Coming Out Day. Act Out! is a national network of youth activists fighting for LGBTQ+ equality, justice, and liberation. Anyone who joins us for a training is automatically added to the the Act Out! network.
Young people who are outraged by attacks on queer & trans youth across the country are invited to "Act Out! Speak Out! A National Coming Out Day Training" on Wednesday, October 11th at 5:30pm EST. Be sure to RSVP here.
We know coming out has been one of the most powerful tools our movement has to shape and change views of LGBTQ+ people and improve policy. It's also complicated, and not always safe. On National Coming Out Day, we wanted to offer a training that harnesses the power of coming out and speaking out in your activism, but also acknowledges that coming out looks different in different communities.
louie ortiz-fonseca (they/he) will lead this training, and I'll be joining for a section on how to use a coming out story in your activism (for example, at a school board meeting, or at a rally). If you don't know who louie is, you're missing out! Check out Gran Varones and Kikis with Louie for more on them. He's also the Director of LGBTQ Health & Rights at Advocates for Youth, which means a lot of our LGBTQ+ organizing and educational tools can be traced back to louie's hard work.
So RSVP here! We hope to see you Wednesday at 5:30pm EST.
