Last week I sent an email asking for your help closing a large gap in our fundraising this fall. We’re off to a really encouraging start—thank you! It’s always very heartening during times like these to see how many people value FAIR’s work. It can be easy to get discouraged by growing disinformation, far-right extremist hate and disregard for the First Amendment—coupled with FAIR’s own dipping revenue and rising expenses. But you, our community, always reminds us why this work is crucial to continue.
When you donate to FAIR, you’re directly funding our operation and ability to keep providing illuminating articles, studies and CounterSpin episodes. If you’re able to chip in, any amount helps. (Seriously—I see every donation come in. Big or small, they all add up!)
We don’t take money from advertisers, politicians or corporations. That’s because we believe reimagining a truly independent press starts with each of us!
To give you a rundown on our current financial situation, we ended the fiscal year of 2023 spending $150,000 more than we took in, our second year in a row with a more than $100,000 deficit. Generous estate bequests in past years have given us a small cushion, but it is dwindling fast, and neither donations nor grants have been able to keep up. In order to comfortably continue the work we’ve been doing since 1986, we need to ramp up this support into the future.
FAIR has a small budget—and that’s how we intend to keep it! We do a lot with a little—we just need a little more at this time.
