| John, Happy Texas Independence Day!! On March 2, 1836, a group of 59 delegates, all settlers in Mexican Texas officially declared independence from Mexico. Their signing of the document declaring independence from Mexico created the Republic of Texas. The best Texas leaders have always had an independent spirit and the courage of their convictions.
