Climate change poses an ongoing threat to our future, so it’s imperative that we take this into account at all levels of government.
In last week’s Board of Public Works meeting, I spoke about the importance of ensuring that our grant programs are aligned with our climate resilience goals. One of the topics we discussed was using program funds to fund artificial turf fields, which have negative environmental impacts and would not support our ultimate goal of climate resilience.
This is just one example of how we’re working to address climate change in the Office of the Comptroller. We just hired a Climate Resilience Director to help lead our efforts in the agency. We also strive to invest sustainably and treat climate change as a serious investment risk, but there is still much more work to be done.
