John,
On Indigenous Peoples' Day, we gather to pay heartfelt tribute to the enduring legacy of those who have faithfully stewarded the bountiful lands and pristine waters of Washington since time immemorial.
As the state lands chief, one of the most profound and cherished aspects of my role has been the privilege of collaborating closely with and gaining profound insights from tribal leaders and vibrant Indigenous communities of our diverse state.
Today, as we come together to commemorate this special day, let us reflect upon and celebrate the invaluable contributions and resiliency of our Indigenous neighbors. It is a moment to recognize and honor their inherent sovereignty, a fundamental element of our shared history and future.
In honoring the past and present, we also look forward to a future where we can continue working together, learning from one another, and fostering even stronger bonds of understanding and cooperation.
With gratitude and respect,
Hilary
