This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we celebrate the legacy of the first people who called this land home and learn about the challenges Indigenous people continue facing today.

California’s history is embedded in the history of Indigenous people, long before the arrival of foreign settlers. Today is an opportunity for us to honor the impact that Native American communities here in California and across the country have had on our history, our culture, and where we are today.

I stand with the Indigenous people who are still fighting for equality and am committed to fighting to undo the generations of oppression they have faced.
