Dear Georgian,

The barbaric attacks on Israeli citizens are unconscionable. I stand with the people of Israel. We, as the United States, need to make sure to do everything to support Israel as they defend themselves against Hamas and those who fund them.

They have a right to defend themselves against these brutal attacks from Hamas terrorists.

Last week, Rep. Matt Gaetz introduced H. Res. 757, a motion to declare the office of Speaker of the House of Representatives vacant and remove Kevin McCarthy from his position as the Speaker of the House.

Later, Rep. Gaetz, along with seven other Republican members, joined every House Democrat, and the resolution passed by a vote of 216 to 210 and removed Rep. McCarthy from the Speaker's office.

I did not support this motion. By voting to remove McCarthy as the Speaker, these members have handed more control of the House to the Democratic Party.

This week, we will return to Washington and work to nominate a new Republican candidate for Speaker of the House. Following that process, the formal vote to install a new Speaker will take place on the House Floor.

I hope that after the House selects new leadership, the focus of Washington will return to legislating and passing needed appropriations bills that promote responsible spending before the recently passed continuing resolution expires in November.

No matter who our House Speaker is, I am always working in DC to restore conservative values and represent your interests in Georgia's Eighth District.

As always, my staff and I are here to help. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my Warner Robins, Tifton, or Washington, D.C. offices. Fox News | Here are 4 of the likely contenders to replace McCarthy as speaker

"Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s decision not to seek the top job again after being ousted by members of his own party caught many by surprise on Tuesday evening — while also creating a power vacuum to take over the gavel.

GOP lawmakers have already started putting in calls to colleagues in the hours after McCarthy, R-Calif., stepped aside.

The House Republican conference is expected to have a candidate forum for House speaker on Tuesday next week followed by elections on Wednesday."
