Here are some recent updates.
* The Wisconsin Supreme Court will hear ([link removed]) a case alleging that the state's legislative districts are extreme partisan gerrymanders that favor Republicans. Justice Janet Protasiewicz will not recuse herself from the case. Oral argument is scheduled for Nov. 21.
+ In a statement responding to Protasiewicz’s decision not to recuse herself, Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R) said ([link removed]) he felt she should have, and warned that “the United States Supreme Court will have the last word here.”
* California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed ([link removed]) three bills aimed at curbing gerrymandering in the state, while vetoing two other redistricting reform bills. One of the now-vetoed bills would have established an independent redistricting commission in Los Angeles, the most populous city in the state and the second-most populous city in the country.
* Jeffrey Clark appealed ([link removed]) a decision by a federal judge that denied his request to move his Fulton County, Georgia criminal charges to federal court. The appeal goes to the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
Here’s what to expect coming up.
* Response briefs are due tomorrow in the U.S. Supreme Court in the Louisiana congressional redistricting case ([link removed]) . * Tomorrow is the last day to register to vote in Ohio and Kentucky for the crucial upcoming November elections! Ohioans can register to vote here ([link removed]) , while those in Kentucky can register until 4 p.m. EDT tomorrow here ([link removed]) .
