Today, we recognize the important contributions that Indigenous people have made throughout American history.
For more than 40 years, the Wabanaki tribes in Maine have been left out of beneficial federal laws that nearly every other federally recognized tribe in America is afforded.
Since being elected, I have made it a priority to advocate that the Wabanaki tribes get the same economic opportunities for their families and safer, healthier communities.
I hope you can take some time today to reflect on the contributions that indigenous people have made. There is more work to be done.
