Saying that Congress was in chaos last week would be an understatement.
Republican extremists recently drove our country to the brink of a government shutdown. We narrowly avoided it, thanks to the hard work of Democrats, but only until November. Then, on Tuesday, Matt Gaetz and his far-right cronies ousted Kevin McCarthy as Speaker — the first time a Speaker of the House has ever been removed from office by House members.
This chaos has nothing to do with the Democratic party. Instead, it’s Congressional Republicans who are too busy fighting each other to govern.
This is a disservice to the American people, plain and simple.
Michael is working hard to pass legislation that supports the people back home — from permanently expanding the Child Tax Credit to taking on the Big Tech companies invading our privacy and corrupting our democracy.
But getting this done requires leaders in Congress who will choose progress over partisan fights. And when Republicans are in chaos — and preventing Congress from actually governing — we all suffer the consequences.
