I'm writing to you this Domestic Violence Awareness Month to ask for your help in supporting women like Jessica. 

After leaving her abusive partner, Jessica started over with nothing. She was living in a domestic violence shelter with her baby, trying to figure out how she could survive financially and find stable housing. 

She persevered through these struggles and, with help from our Live Your Dream Awards, achieved her goal of attending college, becoming a registered dietician, and creating the life she always dreamed of!

In fact, just last year Jessica was able to purchase a condo based solely on her credit and income, a huge milestone for someone who was once homeless. We are SO proud of her.

Jessica’s story had a happy ending thanks to the generous people who invested in her education. But not every survivor story ends happily.

Every year, 8.5 million women experience domestic violence in the United States alone. According to a study by the Institute for Women’s Policy, two-thirds of domestic violence victims said that the abuse negatively affected their educational and professional opportunities. As a result, their future choices—and odds of finding stability—are limited. 

The takeaway?

In addition to safety, survivors need help rebuilding their lives.

Our program, the Live Your Dream Awards, furthers education for women who have faced significant obstacles like domestic abuse. Last year, over 2,000 women received an award to help them unlock a brighter future!
