** It took Columbus two months and nine days to cross the Atlantic. It took "the most transparent administration in history" 8 months and 6 days to email us information that should have been available to the public.

Washington Times ([link removed]) (10/6/23) reports: "It has been a busy few days for a couple of federal agencies trying to explain away or ignore documents that emerged as a result of information requests pursued under the Freedom of Information Act. After more than a year of trying, the Institute for Energy Research unearthed a memo from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission that made it clear that President Biden made Willie Phillips the FERC chairman in January. Unfortunately, a White House official at the time told the media that Mr. Phillips was the 'acting' chairman of FERC. A press statement released by FERC at the time also identified him as 'acting' and as recently as last Friday, the FERC website still identified him as the acting chair in his official biography. Even after the document definitively naming him chairman surfaced last week, nameless officials in the White House continued to lie and
identify Mr. Phillips as an 'acting' chairman. Why the propaganda effort? It is always difficult to ascribe motivations, but Mr. Phillips leans a bit too much toward reliable and affordable energy for the Biden administration, so this sotto voce campaign is probably intended to minimize him. For the record, there is no such thing as an 'acting chairman' at FERC. It’s binary: You are, or you aren’t. Mr. Phillips has been chairman — and an exemplary one — since January."

Biden's agenda of forced mass adoption of EVs cannot coexist with a healthy domestic auto-manufacturing industry.
** Townhall ([link removed])
(10/9/23) column: "The current United Auto Workers (UAW) strike at auto plants around the country highlights one symptom of what has been wrong with U.S. manufacturing for quite some time. Namely, the desire of many of our D.C. politicians, such as Joe Biden, to pick winners and losers in areas of business. Shortly after taking the oath of office, Biden began an assault on the oil and gas industry. Part of that assault has included a very hard push to transition to renewable energy, even though we are not ready for such a transition when viewed from either a technological or infrastructure standpoint...Although there may be legitimate arguments, either pro or con, regarding the bailouts of the industry that occurred years ago, I believe the government's efforts to force companies to make more electric vehicles (EVs) and entice people to buy them are wrong on a number of levels. As referenced earlier, infrastructure and technological issues have not been addressed. For example, concern
over the length of charging times and the lack of public charging stations for EVs is common knowledge. Additionally, you only need to do a Google search to learn of severe problems with the U.S. electric grid. Attempting to use coercion to add an additional load to an already problematic grid system is a bad idea. In addition to developing policies to incentivize EVs, the Biden administration is also taking steps to put in place regulations that, in the words of Alexander Stevens of the Institute for Energy Research, are 'creating a regulatory framework that will essentially outlaw the internal combustion engine. President Biden’s administration has partnered with automakers to force people into EVs as the administration has set an ambitious target of 50 percent electric vehicle sale shares in the U.S. by 2030.'"

Just when you thought Cleveland couldn't get any worse...
** Inside Climate News ([link removed])
(10/8/23) reports: "Sustainability leaders for Cleveland and three neighboring cities are making progress on cutting greenhouse gas emissions, despite a decade of retrenchment on climate policy at the state level. Cleveland’s five-year update of its climate action plan will now commit to be net zero by 2050, said Anand Natarajan, assistant director for the Cleveland Mayor’s Office of Sustainability & Climate Justice. He spoke with other city leaders during a September 21 program for the Cleveland 2030 District, a network of urban areas working in public-private partnerships to address climate change, particularly in buildings. The city’s last plan update, in 2018, called for an 80 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, which would include a switch to 100 percent renewable electricity by then. The net-zero goal in the 2023-2024 update will thus be more ambitious, and also more science-based, Natarajan said. Cleveland also has signed onto the Department of Energy’s Better
Building Challenge, Natarajan said. The challenge calls for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from buildings by at least 50 percent within 10 years."
