Friend, despite 12 states already choosing to express their solidarity with Indigenous people by refusing to celebrate Columbus Day, California is not among them.

But that doesn’t stop us at California Environmental Voters Education Fund from recognizing today as Indigenous People’s Day. Our organization has taken strides in the past few years to mend relationships with our Indigenous allies and reflect on the history of the relationship between the conservation, climate justice, and indigenous rights movements.

But that doesn’t mean we don’t have progress to make. Every day we strive to incorporate Indigenous justice into our ultimate goal of climate justice.

Friend, we wrote a blog discussing how EnviroVoters Ed Fund is celebrating Indigenous People’s Day by working on our solidarity with the Indigenous people of California, and I’d love for you to read it!

Our ultimate goal at EnviroVoters Ed Fund is to build resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and create a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all. That vision does not just include Indigenous people; it also centers them in the solutions.

As part of our Racial Justice and Equity work, our entire staff is reading a book that is all about Indigenous environmental justice, and we’ve learned a lot from it.

Friend, check out our blog post where we explain what we’ve learned and discussed as a team about recognizing our place in the overall movement for climate justice alongside the Indigenous people of California >>

Happy reading!
