Friends,
Like many of you, my heart is heavy as we are all reeling from the tragic news in Israel. On Saturday, we watched in shock and horror as the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas carried out an unprecedented surprise attack on the Jewish state. In an act of war, Hamas terrorists invaded Israel, infiltrated cities and towns across Israel’s south, murdered and kidnapped civilians, and fired thousands of rockets and missiles at cities across the country.
As our CEO Jonathan Greenblatt shared:
“In this moment and in the days ahead, ADL will stand unapologetically, unequivocally, and unshakably with the state of Israel. We will pray for the safety… of every single Israeli irrespective of their ethnicity, faith, persuasion, or political views.  And we will mourn those who have been murdered -- may their memories be a blessing.”
The Jewish community in the U.S. is united in solidarity with the state of Israel during this very difficult time. Here at home, Jewish security is of paramount concern. Therefore, ADL has been in direct communication with local law enforcement and requested an increase of patrols around Jewish institutions in our regions. Our ADL staff is fully mobilized and although we are not aware currently of any threats targeting Jewish institutions we will be monitoring any possible extremists and antisemitic acts in the U.S.We will continue to engage and support local partners, communal allies and our friends overseas.
We would like to use this space to acknowledge, thank and highlight just a few of our regional leaders who have used their platform to condemn these horrific acts. We know there are many others and we thank them too:
