Dear Friend,

Helen is the hardest working member of the NYC Council, and in the fight for justice, she doesn't back down.

Last week she stood with survivor advocates, on the steps of City Hall urging the Mayor to establish a world class NYPD Special Victims Division. Helen knows that we must listen to and better serve victims of sexual assault who come forward in search of justice. Sadly victims are often ignored and the consequences are real.

Helen was joined by Sonia Osorio, President of NOW-NYC and NYS Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas.

The awful truth is that we discourage victims from coming forward as early as elementary school. Through her leadership, Helen has chaired hearings exposing the reality that students who are sexually harassed or abused are sometimes counseled out of reporting, transferred, or simply ignored. Shaming the victim starts early.

Last week the NYC Council passed Helen’s bill requiring the Department of Education and the Commission on Gender Equity to document ALL sexual harassment complaints and abuse as well as their plan to respond in accordance with Title IX. The DOE will be held responsible for implementing the plan.

As NYC Comptroller, Helen will continue to fight for survivors. The Comptroller's office has the tools to investigate the NYPD and DOE and Helen has proven that she is not afraid to hold the city's feet to the fire.

Your donation will ensure that Helen continues to fight for justice.
