John,
America is reeling in response to the mass shootings in Dayton and El Paso,
which staggered those strong communities but strengthened their resolve to
fight back. Compounding the horror of the tragedy in El Paso is powerful
evidence that the crime there was a hate crime and terrorism directed against
Latino Americans and immigrants -- inspired by the same slimy, toxic rhetoric
that is oozing out of Washington D.C.
We must act. Law enforcement cannot solve this problem with the laws we have
on the books today. I know -- as Colorado’s U.S. Attorney, I stood with law
enforcement as we worked, time and again, to respond to terrible mass shootings
here in Colorado. We need stronger, better and more effective laws that
actually work to prevent mass shootings and curb the threat of gun violence --
including universal background checks, limits on magazines and an effective way
to keep military weapons off the streets.
Why haven’t these common-sense measures been passed to keep us safe? Because
time and time again, Republican Senators like Cory Gardner have blocked them.
There are steps we can take right now to protect our communities -- such as
passing the Obama package of gun violence safety measures that I testified for
back in 2013. And we need to implement the same strong measures to combat
domestic terrorism that we used to combat foreign attacks on our soil during
the Obama administration.
We just need the political will to do it. We can't wait around and hope
it will get better.
Take action now: Call Cory Gardner and tell him you demand common-sense
measures to address our nation’s gun violence epidemic. Maybe he won’t listen,
but we have to keep pressing the issue until he finally acts or is voted out of
office! <[link removed]>
CALL CORY GARDNER AND TELL HIM TO ACT ON GUN SAFETY
