John,
Today I want to give you an update on an important issue I’m fighting for in Washington. It’s only going to take a minute, so I hope you’ll keep reading.
At the same time our country was facing a government shutdown, wildland firefighters (aka the ones on the frontline protecting us in California) were facing a massive pay cut if funding wasn’t extended. It was about to be a disaster.
Experts predicted we could see 50% of our wildland firefighters resign if the pay cut was allowed to occur. They’d literally be paid less than California’s minimum wage of $15/hour!
So the update is good and bad news.
The good news: because of the CR funding bill Democrats and I passed, we got a 45 day extension on firefighter pay funding.
The bad news: We only have 42 days until the temporary extension we just passed expires and we’re at the same place we were a week ago - and the Republicans don’t even have a Speaker right now!
That’s why I’m asking for your support: Will you add your name to my petition and tell Congress not to cut firefighter pay here in California?
This should be common sense.
