Dear Neighbor, This past weekend the world woke up to horrific images of Hamas' terrorist attack on Israel. Women, children and innocent civilians were murdered and kidnapped. I issued a statement in support of our ally, Israel. Let's continue to pray for the victims and all those impacted. If you have a loved one that is traveling in Israel or missing, please contact the State Department or our office for assistance. | Last week was another historic week in Washington, and I wanted to update you on the work I've been doing. | Vote to Remove Speaker McCarthy | Last Tuesday, Republicans moved to Kevin McCarthy as the Speaker of the House. I voted to remove Kevin McCarthy from his position as Speaker. This vote was not about any one person - it was about putting the American people over politics. Kevin McCarthy had shown time and again that he was not interested in doing work on behalf of the American people. And refused to work in bipartisan fashion. Since the start of this Congress, he has allowed a small minority of House MAGA Republicans to dictate the business of the House. This lack of leadership lead to threats, and votes, to cut services our communities rely on and broken promises on agreements negotiated in good-faith by both parties. This is a solemn and serious moment for our country, and the first time in American history that the Speaker's office has been vacated. House Democrats will continue to work for the American people. You can see my full statement below. | Supporting Striking Kaiser Healthcare Workers | Last week while home, I joined the Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West picket line in Harbor City to stand with our Kaiser healthcare workers as they strike for fair wages, workforce retention, and investments in training and new workers. Our healthcare workers care for millions in CA and across the country. They deserve a fair wage and working conditions, and support from their employers. | Thank you to everyone who came out to my 5th Annual Jobs Fair in Paramount! This year, we had nearly 400 job-seekers come by to meet with over 50 employers with over 1000 positions available, participate in resume and interview skills workshops, and a professional clothing drive for interviews. It was a great event that connected our community directly with jobs of every level. Thank you to all of the employers and our partners for making today possible! | Interview with Lakewood CityTV | In 2020, Congressional redistricting added the community of Lakewood, west of Bellflower Boulevard, to the 44th District. I sat down with Lakewood CityTV recently to talk about my job as your Representative in the House and as Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. | Free Flu & COVID Vaccine Event | Flu season is just around the corner, and with COVID on the rise, now is the best time to get vaccinated for both viruses.
