[1]U.S. Senator Chris Murphy

I’m starting my annual Walk Across Connecticut on Monday, and I thought I’d share a bit about how it works and why I do it.

I’m a big believer in meeting people where they are. That’s how we should run campaigns, and it’s also part of my approach to being a senator.

This walk is a chance to do that. I take a week every year and I walk about 20 miles a day, one end of the state to the other. It lets me connect with people who might never reach out to my office and aren’t as plugged into politics in a casual and organic setting.

When I walk up to people in a baseball cap, t-shirt and sneakers, a lot of them don’t believe me when I say that I’m their U.S. Senator. But what happens next is remarkable. They drop their guard, and they start to tell me things about their life and what they want and don’t want from government.

I don’t know that they would tell me these things if I met them in a suit. And then I carry their stories and ideas with me back to Washington to deliver real results for our families.

A lot of politicians don’t do this type of work. For me, it’s just what I think you deserve. You should be able to expect more of your elected officials.

Hopefully this shows people how passionate I am about representing them.

If you agree with my approach, I hope you’ll consider pitching in a few bucks to my reelection to help me continue representing you. Every grassroots donation helps me spend more time focused on the work you elected me to do.
