Strategies for Learning from Failure Many executives believe that all failure is bad (although it usually provides lessons) and that learning from it is pretty straightforward. The author, a professor at Harvard Business School, thinks both beliefs are misguided. In organizational life, she says, some failures are inevitable and some are even good. And successful learning from failure is not simple: It requires context-specific strategies. But first leaders must understand how the blame game gets in the way and work to create an organizational culture in which employees feel safe admitting or reporting on failure.
Failures fall into three categories: preventable ones in predictable operations, which usually involve deviations from spec; unavoidable ones in complex systems, which may arise from unique combinations of needs, people, and problems; and intelligent ones at the frontier, where “good” failures occur quickly and on a small scale, providing the most valuable information.

WorkHundreds die and hostages held as Hamas assault shocks Israel Netanyahu returned to office at the end of last year with the help of new far-right coalition partners. Over less than a year in office, they have wreaked domestic havoc by pushing through an unpopular judicial overhaul, a move that led thousands of IDF reservists to say they would stop reporting for duty. On Saturday, those divides appeared to have been put aside, as thousands of reservists across the country scrambled to bases.

WorkStarmer warns Labour: 'Don't get giddy over prospect of election victory' Asked if he shared that opinion, Starmer responded: "Yes, of course. You know, a woman is a female adult." He then added that in "tens of thousands of conversations" that team Labour have had on doorsteps, no one had raised the issue.Referring to Labour's byelection win in Rutherglen and Hamilton West, described by the party's leader in Scotland, Anas Sarwar, as "seismic", Starmer was more reserved: "This result tells us that voters in Scotland want change and now see the Labour party as the party of change. We are humble in victory, but the results gives us a very strong foundation to win other constituencies in Scotland." If you ask my buddy Thirsty Kyle Soppe, he\'ll tell you how much love I have for this random AFC South WR. There\'s no Treylon Burks this week, and in his three of his four games, Westbrook-Ikhine has hit this mark. And since they\'re taking on the Anthony Richardson-led Colts who have hit at least 21 points in all four games this year, I\'m expecting there to be enough passing game offense to get us here. I know, I know -- this one feels like it\'s out there -- but I really like this number given his usage without Burks in the lineup. WorkMigrants Chased and Snared in Razor Wire: A Rare Look at Texas’ Border Tactics The Texas Department of Public Safety opened an investigation into the state military’s tactics at the border, including the use of concertina wire, after a trooper-medic sent an email in July expressing concern after a large group of migrants was pushed back across the Rio Grande to Mexico in extreme heat conditions and not given water. The department did not respond to a request for comment on the status of the case. The UN secretary general, António Guterres, condemned the attack by Hamas and urged “all diplomatic efforts to avoid a wider conflagration”, UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said in a statement. WorkCondemnation and calls for restraint after Hamas attack on Israel The UAE, which signed a deal to normalise diplomatic relations with Israel two years ago, also issued a statement describing “deep concern about the escalation of violence,” and calling for “maximum restraint and an immediate ceasefire to avoid dangerous repercussions”. WorkMLB Division Series: Live updates, analysis from Day 1 Game 2 will be a little more conventional with Jordan Montgomery starting, but that leaves the Orioles in the same position as Game 1: Henderson slides down in the order since he\'s worse against southpaws, and Ryan O\'Hearn starts the game on the bench. Given the roll Montgomery has been on -- two runs over his past 34 innings, including seven scoreless against the Rays in the wild-card series -- the Orioles\' best chance might be to once again just keep it close and hope to beat the Texas bullpen late in the game. And not to get caught stealing. Hall has averaged only eight rushes per game, but that\'s because the Jets haven\'t been able to sustain drives. If they can do that, and get the run game going, Hall should get up to 15 attempts or so. -- Rich Cimini WorkMcTominay rescues Man United but questions mount for Ten Hag McTominay, who has only started two games this season, has done everything he can to make sure he gets an opportunity when United resume after the international break with a trip to Sheffield United.
