John –
It's Banned Books Week, an event that serves as an annual reminder that books are not dangerous.
Book banning and censorship have reached epidemic levels in states across the country – and it's the folks serving in local elected offices like library boards and school boards that are the last line of defense to protect our freedom of speech.
Far-right Republican groups are breaking records by banning or challenging nearly 4,000 books, not only in school libraries but now in public libraries as well. Controlling what kids read was never enough. Now, they're getting classics like Beloved or The Handmaid's Tale tossed out too.
If left unchecked, this is how fascism takes hold. It's why we take our mission at Contest Every Race so seriously.
It takes real time and resources to recruit local leaders to run for their school and library boards to stop these dangerous book bans. Help us elect an army of free speech advocates by pitching in $3, or whatever you can today.
Our library trustees and school board members aren't letting radical groups like "Moms for Liberty" call the shots on our First Amendment rights. But, we need to recruit and elect more good folks to local offices to protect our right to read.
We're not scared of ideas – and together, we will keep our libraries ban-free. Your contribution of $3 gets us that much closer to keeping books in classrooms and on shelves, right where they belong.
Onward,
Contest Every Race
