Conservatives Will Be Tough On Crime

The first few weeks of Parliament this fall have been busy. I have been fighting for tough-on-crime laws which will make bail harder to obtain for repeat offenders, expand the use of electronic monitoring devices to prevent intimate partner violence, and strengthen the Sex Offender Registry.

The House of Commons unanimously supported my motion to fast-track Bill C-48, which will tighten certain bail laws for repeat violent offenders.

This is just a first step towards fixing Canada's broken bail laws, not the total reform Conservatives have been calling for. Violent crime has risen 39% since the Liberals took office 8 years ago, and most of their soft-on-crime policies remain in place and continue to endanger our communities.

Conservatives will make sure that criminals get jail, not bail. Watch my speech below:

I am very pleased to sponsor Bill S-205, which will help fight the rise in violence against women and intimate partner violence by strengthening the use of electronic monitoring devices.

A women is murdered every 48 hours in Canada. We must use every tool at our disposal to protect those who have made the courageous choice to flee abusive and violent partners.

I spoke in support of Bill S-12, which will ensure that sex offenders convicted of crimes against children or convicted of multiple sexual offences are automatically registered with the Sex Offender Registry.

Conservatives believe that this bill does not go far enough. Sexual assault has risen by 71% over the past 8 years, and not every criminal responsible will be added to the database.

This is a necessary first step, not a perfect solution. Conservatives will continue to push for tough-on-crime policies and bring home safe streets for all Canadians.

President Zelenskyy's visit was supposed to be a day where Canadians and Ukrainians could stand in unison against Putin’s brutal invasion of Ukraine.

Instead, the Liberals’ failure to screen a Nazi guest ensured an embarrassment for our government on the world stage and helped fuel Russia’s propaganda machine.

Speaker Rota has resigned. Prime Minister Trudeau has yet to take any responsibility and personally apologize.

The extraordinary increase in the cost of housing after 8 years of Liberal government has destroyed the dream of home ownership for millions of Canadians.

Young Canadians cannot afford a down payment, let alone a mortgage. I asked the Deputy Prime Minister what, if anything, the government is doing to lower the costs of housing that have exploded on their watch:
