The Biden administration recently announced it’s going to put the power of the full federal government into fighting climate change through a government-wide social cost of carbon directive.
Fossil fuel does about $700 billion in harm every year to the United States, and they’ve gotten away with it for free – until now. The administration’s new directive will factor the true costs of carbon pollution into a variety of government actions – whether that’s purchasing, regulations, or permitting. This will make a big difference in reducing emissions and will cut back on the bills that American taxpayers have to pay for climate-related disasters and other costs triggered by climate change.
It’s undeniable: Democrats are getting things done on climate.
This is a big deal, team, and it’s one I’ve been pushing for for many years now, so I’m heartened by the administration’s decision. After a summer of extreme weather events that shattered records, there’s still more to be done to find a pathway to climate safety. So I’m asking: Can you donate today to protect our Democratic Senate majority so we can continue our work to hold the fossil fuel industry accountable and protect our planet?
We need Democrats in Congress who will fight to protect the planet for the next generation.
