John – when countries from all around the world came together to sign the Paris Agreement in 2016, one of the provisions they agreed on was to limit global temperature warming to less than 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7° F).
A new report by the International Energy Agency suggests that the path to keeping warming temperatures under 1.5° is narrow — but still doable.
Here’s what the report says: The path to keeping rising temperatures under the 1.5° target is narrow, but if rapid action is taken before 2030, we may still be able to prevent devastating climate change impacts. This would be good news for the planet — if we’re able to act fast enough.
In order to keep temperatures at the “net zero scenario” (rising no more than 1.5° C), the International Energy Agency (IEA) reports that we’ll need to triple global renewable energy capacity by 2030.
The work that SEEC Members have accomplished in Congress is extremely important to increasing the amount of renewable energy resources available and keeping our climate goals in our sights, but they need our help protecting their progress.
Thanks to your help in 2022, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 118th Congress while we continue fighting for a sustainable future.
