To kick off Virginia Wine Month, the First Lady announced the second edition of Cornus Virginicus (Latin for Flowering Tree of Virginia), now available. This limited-release wine project celebrates Virginia’s flourishing agriculture, especially Virginia farmers, growers, and winemakers. The second edition of Cornus Virginicus is a collaboration between the First Lady, female winemaker Melanie Natoli of Cana Vineyards and Winery, Virginia Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry Matthew Lohr, and the Virginia Wine Board. As part of the special initiative, proceeds are given to Virginia Agriculture in the Classroom, a non-profit, statewide educational program that provides resources, training, and support to schools, educators, and volunteers so that they can meaningfully connect children to agriculture. |
