America’s progressives have long been enamored of the Scandinavian social model and the media is replete with articles about they are the happiest people in the world, living in a country with the best educated population, low crime rates, and some of the wealthiest people per capita on earth. To that we can now add Norway’s seemingly successful prison system.

San Francisco has become almost as famous for its serial store closings as its cable cars. Popular retailers, including Nordstrom, Whole Foods, Saks Off 5th, Anthropologie and Office Depot are shutting their doors because, well, they just can’t take it anymore. The thieves won.

Across the water, on the east side of San Francisco Bay, Oakland is having its own problems with lawbreakers. (The number of people surprised by this is surely in the low single digits.) The city’s ​​restaurateurs say crime is “pushing them to the brink of collapse,” SFGATE reports.

California Bill Would Loosen Housing Rules Along the Coast

The most significant and praiseworthy housing bill this year is Senate Bill 423. It passed the Legislature and now is on Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk. Mainly, the bill extends for a decade the provisions of 2017’s Senate Bill 35, which was the first major deregulation-oriented housing measure from the last few years.
