37 states have confirmed both their 2024 statewide and presidential primaries

 
 
 
Forty-one states and the District of Columbia have confirmed the dates for their 2024 statewide primaries through the release of an official election calendar or candidate filing instructions. Separately, 40 states have confirmed the date for at least one presidential nominating contest. 

Some states schedule their presidential primaries at the same time as statewide primaries for other offices, while other states hold elections on separate dates. 

So far, 16 states that have confirmed their statewide and presidential primaries have scheduled both for the same date.

State supreme courts issued 133 opinions from Sept. 18-24. The Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia led the field with 32 opinions issued, followed by Georgia with 11, and Montana and Texas with seven each. 

Every state and the District of Columbia have at least one supreme court, known as a court of last resort. Oklahoma and Texas have two courts of last resort, one for civil cases and one for criminal proceedings.

State ballot measure certifications move past 10-year average

 
 
 
The ballot measure landscape is set for 2023. ICYMI, check out our final roundup from Sept. 18.

Heading into 2024, 49 statewide measures have been certified in 22 states. An average of 48 measures were certified at this point between 2010 and 2022.

An average of 164 statewide measures were approved in even-numbered years from 2010 to 2022.
