Dear John,

If you've been reading my emails, you may have noticed that I sign them with the word "Tuebor."

Tuebor means "I will defend." It's a word that appears on the Michigan State Seal, and at the time of its introduction, reflected Michigan's position on the frontier of a growing nation.

These days, though, I think the phrase has a new meaning.

When I sign my emails with "Tuebor," I'm making a promise to those in my community (and to myself) to defend the things that we value the most:

  • Our democracy
  • The middle class
  • A brighter future for our kids and those who will come after us.

For me, the phrase is a reminder of the responsibility that each of us bears as Americans – to serve those around us and to come together for the common good.

I'm running for Congress because I will never stop defending that which matters most – if you're with me in this fight, chip in today to fund our campaign >>
