Friend,
The effects of climate change mean that natural disasters are becoming more frequent and increasing in intensity.
This summer alone, we suffered $18 billion in damages from disasters across the country – from Hurricane Idalia and Maui’s wildfires to ongoing severe flooding throughout the south and northeast.
As New Yorkers, we know firsthand that to recover from disasters like these, we need our Federal Emergency Management Agency to have a fully funded Disaster Relief Fund.

But House Republicans’ inability to govern has held up the $12 billion needed to replenish this fund after a summer of billion-dollar disasters. And because of this, their constituents and Americans nationwide are hurting.
Because FEMA has not received this funding, its reserves are approaching depletion. The agency has had to notify local governments that it won’t be able to refund millions of dollars already spent on rebuilding in order to maintain some reserves for life-threatening emergencies that may arise.
Denying climate change and refusing to fund FEMA does not change the realities people are facing.
If you agree that this is unacceptable, I urge you to support my effort to take back the House for Democrats in 2024. [[link removed]]
Climate change and natural disasters cannot see party affiliation. When Democrats are in charge of the House, we work to ensure that Disaster Relief Funding is available for everyone in need.

Protecting our nation from disaster is the right thing to do.
