On behalf of disabled Americans everywhere: politicians, do better.

With another election coming this November (yes, amazingly they happen every year), disabled voters are facing yet another accessibility barrier: getting to their polling place and waiting in line. We live in a world where AI can write code and re-create the Mona Lisa, yet we haven’t been able to help disabled Americans vote. Classic America.

Data for Progress finds ([link removed]) nearly 1 in 5 (18%) disabled voters have difficulty waiting in line to vote. Disabled voters are more than twice as likely as non-disabled voters to experience challenges getting to their polling places, and 7% of disabled voters report having difficulty understanding how to vote or use the voting equipment.

Unsurprisingly, disabled Americans feel left behind by politicians — a rational conclusion when it’s difficult to even vote for your representatives. A majority of voters across party lines (55%) do not believe that public officials and politicians care about what people with disabilities think. This includes 58% of Democrats, 56% of Independents, and 52% of Republicans, as well as 61% of disabled voters.

Disabled Americans shouldn’t feel like an afterthought, and it’s unacceptable that they don’t receive proper accommodations. So, politicians, hi: it’s about time you step up and ensure the 27% of American adults with a disability ([link removed]) have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else.

Here are some other highlights from DFP this week:

Bob Menendez is stuck in the mud, somewhere in the swamps of Jersey.

Welcome back to your weekly “Menendez’s Meltdown” update — our new favorite segment here at Data for Progress. This week, we’ve got some polling on the biggest Jersey duel since a Vice President shot a Secretary of the Treasury in Weehawken. It’s Senator Robert Mendenez vs. primary challenger Representative Andy Kim and boy, is it wild.

Data for Progress finds ([link removed]) that 48% of Democratic primary voters from New Jersey would vote for Representative Kim if the 2024 Democratic primary election for U.S. Senator from New Jersey was held today. Only 9% of New Jersey Democratic primary voters would vote for Bob. Ouch. Guess gold bars can’t buy you an election these days.

And, at this point, “resign, Bob!” seems to be the sentiment amongst New Jerseyans. Data for Progress finds that 78% of likely Democratic primary voters in New Jersey believe Menendez should resign from the Senate, while only 14% say he should not resign. What a terrific performance review. No notes.

C’mon Bob — when you share information with the Egyptian government and drive around in your Mercedes-bribe, it really can’t come as a shock that you're a pretty unpopular dude.
