Donald Trump is scared.
- He is being tried in federal court for his illegal attempt to subvert the 2020 election and for his mishandling of classified documents.
- He is being tried in Georgia for attempting to overturn the 2020 election results in that state.
- He is being sued by New York’s attorney general for financial fraud and by a woman a jury found he sexually abused.
And — like all petty, vindictive, amoral losers — Trump is lashing out at anyone and everyone he can in desperation to forestall the judgment he deserves.
He is even attacking the judges, jurors, and court staff involved in his trials.
That’s why Public Citizen is proud to be a signatory to an open letter published this week calling for juror protections in light of escalating threats from Trump and his adherents.
Here’s some of the letter:
Jurors — past, present, and future — are under attack from Donald Trump and those who do his bidding.
Self-serving assaults on institutions and individuals are what Trump and his enablers do. These attacks threaten centuries-old American institutions designed by the Framers to hold to account any leader who would be king.
Accountability is the centerpiece of the rule of law. No one is above it.
The letter — organized by the Not Above the Law coalition (which we helped found in 2017) — was signed by Public Citizen and 30 other organizations, including Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, Common Cause, Government Accountability Project, Indivisible, People For the American Way, and Sierra Club.
Add your name if you agree that Donald Trump and his adherents cross a line when they harass or threaten jurors and that jurors must be protected.
Thanks for taking action.
For justice,
- Robert Weissman, President of Public Citizen
