Huntington Commissioners Donate to Markle Park

This week, the Huntington County Commissioners approved a $10,000 gift to the Markle Fish and Game Club Park as a donation to their Patronicity Fundraiser.

The park will use these and future donations to improve its ballpark, swimming pool, sound stage and other park amenities.

The Markle Fish and Game Club is a nonprofit organization, and is working to raise at least $50,000 to qualify for a matching grant from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority.

Schools in District 17 Participating in AI Pilot Program

The Metropolitan School District of Wabash County Schools and Madison-Grant United School Corporation were selected by the Indiana Department of Education to participate in an Artificial Intelligence Pilot Program.

This $2 million investment aims to bring artificial intelligence into classrooms for the remainder of the school year. School districts will get to choose which type of AI-powered platform they'd like to implement. Through the pilot, educators will receive support and training.

Ultimately, the goal of this pilot program is to reduce the workload placed on teachers and help state officials learn about the good and bad of AI implementation in our education system.

Protecting Hoosiers' Data

Data breaches and cybersecurity threats continue to grow while an increasing number of businesses have access to Americans' personal information. In 2022 alone, the Office of the Attorney General recorded over 1,200 security breaches in Indiana.

That's why we recognize October as Cybersecurity Awareness Month, which highlights the importance of keeping our data secure and protecting our critical infrastructure.

Data breaches can create a significant risk of fraud and identity theft, which is why I supported a new law that provides Hoosiers a data privacy "bill of rights" to help them monitor how their data is being used and even have it deleted.

Additionally, the Indiana Cybersecurity Hub and Emergency Manager Cybersecurity Toolkit provide best practices, tips and resources to keep you protected.

Data privacy is more important than ever as the digital world expands. This is why the General Assembly continues to study new technology and ways to promote digital security.
