Dear John,
Today, we were greeted with the joyful news that Narges Mohammadi - a renowned champion of women’s rights and democracy in Iran - received the Nobel Peace Prize for her heroic work and inspiration to millions inside Iran and across the globe.

We hope that this prize shines a light on the tenacity of Narges Mohammadi in advocating for basic human rights and the sacrifices that she and the Iranian people have endured in the name of justice, equality, and true representation. Countless brave Iranians are leading the struggle for their rights and a brighter future and this award is a recognition of their organic efforts inside Iran.
Whether in her denunciations of the mandatory hijab law and the brutal repression of Iran’s government against ordinary people and prisoners of conscience or her principled warnings against the corrosive impact of broad sanctions on both the people of Iran and the movement for freedom, Narges has never shied from speaking truth to power.
Iranian authorities have met Narges’ determination with horrific treatment and long detentions that have robbed her of time with her husband and children. But Narges’ powerful voice cannot be contained by the brutal walls of Evin Prison and the inhumane authorities in Iran and instead sounds across the world as a clarion call for justice.
