Introducing, Together Type 1
John, last September, we announced an incredible £5 million donation from the Steve Morgan Foundation to develop a new support programme for young people living with type 1 diabetes. This month, almost 50 Young Leaders joined us in Manchester to celebrate the first anniversary of the programme and launch its new name, Together Type 1!
Together Type 1 is a programme built with and for young people. In the last year, we’ve welcomed nearly 100 Young Leaders who’ve helped us shape the programme and drive it forwards. From peer support to help tackle isolation, to campaigning for change with healthcare professionals, our Young Leaders are giving a voice to young people living with type 1 diabetes.
With expansion across the whole of the UK on the horizon, year two is set to be a busy one for Together Type 1. Above all, we’ll be focused on continuing our work to give young people a voice to talk about life with diabetes, connect with peers and advocate for change.
If you’d like to see what Together Type 1 means to young people, check out this video our Young Leaders have put together.

Look out for sugar-free changes
McDonald’s have announced they’ll be swapping some of their drinks to sugar-free alternatives. The change will be staggered, so if you currently use McDonald’s drinks as a hypo treatment, it’s worth checking before you order. While some drinks are being swapped, McDonald’s will still offer other drinks containing sugar. You can find plenty of info about alternative hypo treatments on our website.

Speak up and speak out
Join us in calling on the Government to make sure hybrid closed loop technology for people with type 1 diabetes is properly funded so local services and systems can deliver it. We've got an email ready for you to send our message to Steve Barclay, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care – will you help us ensure fairer and equal access to this life-changing diabetes technology?

African and Caribbean cuisine is fantastic because not only is it bursting with flavour, it also means cooking fantastic fresh food from scratch. This Black History Month we’re excited to launch our latest 5-part video series on Eating Well, focusing on simple, tasty tweaks to some of the most popular foods from African and Caribbean cuisine – from delicious Joloff rice to Caribbean jerk peas and chicken.
