Newly released numbers estimate 39 million homes across the United States are at risk of losing their insurance coverage due to climate change.
This would spell widespread financial ruin for millions of Americans, and yet, Radical Republicans are still set on doing everything they can to slash government spending on pro-climate initiatives, even after bringing our government to the brink of a shutdown.
According to the climate research firm First Street Foundation, there’s a climate insurance bubble where premiums don’t accurately reflect the rapidly increasing risks from climate change diasters. This has already led some major insurance companies to pull out from areas with high risks of fires, floods, and storms. But these moves could be just the tip of the iceberg for what’s to come.
With millions at risk of losing home insurance, it’s clear that we need leaders who we can trust to take action on the climate crisis. Meanwhile, Republicans are content to promote anti-climate policies that endanger lives and livelihoods.
