I refuse to wait a second longer.
When I learned of the horrific mass shootings and acts of domestic terrorism in El Paso and Dayton, I was heartbroken.
But I was also angry.
Because I’ve spent the last 3 months watching Mitch McConnell block House Democrats’ critical gun safety legislation.
Legislation I helped bring to the House floor for a vote. Legislation I was proud to support. Legislation that will save lives.
But instead of acting, I’ve watched Mitch McConnell do everything in his power to keep our gun safety package from getting a vote.
I watched him and his Republican Senate leave for a month-long vacation.
Then, I watched tragedy strike.
And I knew at that very second -- sitting on Mitch McConnell’s desk -- was a bill that could save lives.
It makes me sick to think of McConnell and his Republican Senate on vacation while Americans are dying from gun violence.
Our nation is still grieving, we’re still healing from wounds that may never close.
But every second Republicans wait to prevent future tragedies like the ones we just witnessed is a gross miscarriage of justice.
They need to return to work. I need your voice alongside mine to demand it.
Thank you,
Ben Ray Luján
