Representatives from the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) and the Office of Higher Education (OHE) visited Ultra Machining Company in Monticello, Minnesota, Oct. 4 to discuss the company's use of Dual-Training Pipeline [ [link removed] ] and Youth Skills Training [ [link removed] ] programs as workforce tools to help the company address critical workforce challenges?in the manufacturing industry.

DLI Commissioner Nicole Blissenbach, OHE Commissioner Dennis Olson, staff members from DLI's Dual-Training Pipeline and Youth Skills Training programs, educators and trainees gathered to discuss and celebrate the company's successful dual-training and workforce programs.

Women's Economic Security Act grants awarded

Five organizations were awarded grants to promote understanding of Minnesota laws relating to pregnant and new parents' workplace rights to pregnancy accommodations and pregnancy and parental leave through the Women's Economic Security Act (WESA). View the recipients [ [link removed] ].

Earned sick and safe time grants awarded

Seven organizations will be awarded grants as part of Minnesota's new earned sick and safe time law, which goes into effect Jan. 1 and requires employers to provide paid leave to employees who work in the state. The grants will be used to promote education, outreach, communication, engagement and training to build worker and employer understanding about Minnesota laws relating to earned sick and safe time. Apprenticeship Week is Nov. 13 to 19, 2023

Apprenticeship Week in Minnesota (Nov. 13 to 19, 2023) [ [link removed] ] is an opportunity for the apprenticeship community to tell their stories about registered apprenticeship and share with businesses, industry, labor, education, career-seekers, community-based organizations, students and workers the advantages of developing careers through adoption of the apprenticeship model.

MNOSHA fatality, serious-injury investigation summaries online

Each month, Minnesota OSHA (MNOSHA) Compliance publishes current, updated summaries of its fatality investigations and serious-injury investigations.

For the federal-fiscal-year that began Oct. 1, 2022, MNOSHA has investigated 24 fatalities through Sept. 29.

The information provided about each investigation is:? the inspection number, date of incident and worksite city; the type of business and number of employees; a description of the event; and the outcome of the MNOSHA Compliance investigation.
