NYC Mayor Looking to End the “Right to Shelter” Law, Dissuade Potential Migrants from Coming to the Country

Daily Mail: Desperate New York City Mayor Eric Adams has pleaded with a judge to end the city’s longstanding ‘right to shelter’ law as he struggles to house more than 122,000 migrants who have flooded the Big Apple since last year. Adams, 63, sent a letter Tuesday evening urging a judge to dismiss the city’s legal obligation to provide shelter to adults, claiming the 1981 law should be void in a state of emergency. The letter, sent to New York Supreme Court justice Erika Edwards, warned that the huge influx ‘shows no signs of abating’, while citing a staggering 159 percent increase in the number of people in the city’s care since April 2022 (Daily Mail). National Review: On Wednesday, Adams started a four-day trip to Mexico, Colombia, and Ecuador in order to dissuade potential migrants from traveling to New York City after crossing the southern border (National Review).

Philadelphia DA Will Take It Easy on Looters
Fox News: Progressive Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, who has been accused of being soft on crime, assured reporters in recent days that he will investigate the people involved in widespread looting of the city in an “even-handed way.” Krasner, who was impeached by Pennsylvanian Republicans last year for policies they alleged exacerbated crime in the city, claimed that he will weigh whether those arrested in connection to the looting have been “fundamentally law-abiding people” throughout their lives despite their antics over the weekend (Fox News). End Wokeness: Soros-funded DA Larry Krasner says he will go easy on looters if he determines that they’re good people (X). Free Beacon: Krasner, who in 2017 received millions of dollars from left-wing megadonor George Soros, campaigned as a progressive prosecutor who would overhaul Philadelphia’s criminal justice system. During the 2020 George Floyd riots, he called for “policing” to be “defunded in favor of things that work better.” Since then, murders throughout the city have skyrocketed to their highest numbers in decades, with more than 500 Philadelphians killed last year (Free Beacon).

Biden to Continue Building the Border Wall in South Texas
National Review: Department of Homeland Security secretary Alejandro Mayorkas waived 26 federal laws Wednesday, allowing border-wall construction in south Texas to resume under the Biden administration for the first time since former president Donald Trump left office. “There is presently an acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers and roads in the vicinity of the border of the United States in order to prevent unlawful entries into the United States in the project areas,” Mayorkas wrote in the notice. The new construction project will add an additional 20 miles to the border wall in Starr County, Texas, which has been reported as an area experiencing “high illegal entry” (National Review). RNC Research: Biden on declaring an “immediate need” for new border wall construction in south Texas: “The money was appropriated for the border wall. I tried to get them to re-direct that money… I can’t stop that” (X). Just the News: President Joe Biden currently has a 33.6% approval rating on immigration. A further 62.8% disapprove of his handling of the issue (Just the News).

Judge Decrees Trump May Not Move Resources Without Consulting Court Monitor
Washington Examiner: Judge Arthur Engoron issued an order on Thursday requiring former President Donald Trump to disclose ahead of time any transfer of assets or creation of any entities. The order was released as the former president’s fraud trial in New York enters its fourth day, and places Trump, along with the other defendants in the case, under the scrutiny of an independent monitor appointed by Engoron. The case stems from a lawsuit New York Attorney General Letitia James filed last year alleging fraud by the Trump Organization. She is seeking $250 million in damages, along with hoping to block Trump from doing business in New York. Engoron has already found Trump liable for the fraud claims, but now the nonjury trial will proceed to examine the six claims brought by James (Washington Examiner). Fox News: The order is the second Engoron has issued since the trial began on Monday. He also issued a partial gag order on Trump, prohibiting him from discussing court staff on social media. That order came in reaction to Trump publicly criticizing one of Engoron’s law clerks on social media (Fox News).

Federal Agencies Spent Lavishly on Upgrading Their Offices During Covid
Daily Mail: Federal officials have been criticized after splashing $3.3 billion on swanky new office furniture during the pandemic, when almost all staff worked from home. The egregious spending habits of the US government included almost $250,000 on solar-powered picnic tables for the CDC, and $120,000 on plush Ethan Allen leather chairs. A bombshell watchdog report found that over $1 billion a year was spent on lavish décor for federal spaces between 2020 and 2022, while just a fraction of employees made their way into the office amid Covid-19 lockdown restrictions (Daily Mail). New York Post: The Pentagon had the highest spending levels, with $1.2 billion in new furniture purchases, the group noted. Other agencies’ spending levels included $428 million by the Department of Veteran Affairs, $408 million by the Justice Department, $308 million by the General Services Administration, $302 million by the State Department and $155 million by the Department of Homeland Security. House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington (R-Texas) told The Post: “Excessive spending on luxurious furniture when more than half the federal workforce was teleworking is just symptomatic of a culture of wasteful spending that has plagued Washington, DC, for decades” (New York Post).

Russia Sends Missile into Ukraine Café, Grocery Store Killing 51
Reuters: A Russian missile slammed into a cafe and grocery store in a village in northeastern Ukraine on Thursday, killing at least 51 people as they held a memorial service, Ukrainian officials said. The cafe and shop were struck and reduced to rubble early in the afternoon in Hroza village in the Kupiansk district of the Kharkiv region, regional governor Oleh Synehubov said, adding that many civilians had been there at the time. Officials posted footage of dazed-looking rescue workers clambering through smoldering rubble. Some photos showed bodies lying alongside slabs of concrete and twisted metal, and others showed rescue workers carrying away bodies (Reuters). Washington Post: Ukrainian officials have said that Moscow for months has been trying to gain ground toward Kupyansk, a small city just 30 miles away from Russia’s border veined with strategic roads and rail tracks, including a train line that reaches Russia’s border (Washington Post). Defense of Ukraine: The terrorists deliberately carried out the attack during lunchtime, to ensure a maximum number of casualties. There were no military targets there. This is a heinous crime intended to scare Ukrainians (X).

Trump Fundraises Over $45.5 Million in Quarter Three
Reuters: Donald Trump’s campaign said on Wednesday it raised over $45.5 million in the third quarter from July to September, nearly 30% higher than it raised in the previous quarter while the former U.S. president faces multiple legal charges. The acceleration in fundraising could be a sign that Trump’s 2024 campaign coffers are benefiting from his legal problems, which include four indictments. The Trump campaign said it had over $37.5 million cash on hand and that about $36 million of it is designated for the primary (Reuters). Axios: The DeSantis campaign has $5 million cash on hand that could be spent on the primary. All candidates have until Oct. 15 to publicly disclose their fundraising and spending totals from the third quarter (Axios).

Cake Baker Jack Phillips to Have His Case Heard Before Colorado Supreme Court
NBC: The announcement by the Colorado Supreme Court is the latest development in the yearslong legal saga involving Jack Phillips and LGBTQ rights. Phillips won a partial victory before the U.S. Supreme Court in 2018 after refusing to make a gay couple’s wedding cake. He was later sued by Autumn Scardina, a transgender woman, after Phillips and his suburban Denver bakery refused to make a pink cake with blue frosting for her birthday and to celebrate her gender transition. Scardina, an attorney, said she brought the lawsuit to “challenge the veracity” of Phillips’ statements that he would serve LGBTQ customers. Her attorney said her cake order was not a “set up” intended to file a lawsuit (NBC). National Review: Phillips has a legal precedent for challenging Colorado’s anti-discrimination law, thanks to the U.S. Supreme Court’s 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis ruling, which disregarded the same law. In June, the high court decided that Lorie Smith, a Christian web designer also based in Colorado, could not be forced to create a wedding website for a same-sex couple that would violate her deeply-held religious beliefs (National Review).

Disney Unfavourability Continues to Grow as They Embed Themselves in Politics
Daily Wire: Disney has failed to make any inroads with conservative Americans who turned on the entertainment industry giant over its woke politics. Just over 60% of Republicans have an unfavorable opinion of Disney the survey conducted by Rasmussen in late September found. The results are starkly divided by political identity. For Democrats, the results are almost exactly the opposite — 61% of Democrats view Disney favorably and just 29% unfavorably. The polling indicates that Disney’s woke politics have a real-time impact on its standing popularity (Daily Wire). Rasmussen: After getting in a high-profile conflict with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, the Disney company is viewed unfavorably by most Republicans (Rasmussen).

Chicago Youth Program Removed from Their Facility to House Illegal Immigrants
Sandra Rose: Kids in a youth football program in Chicago are being evicted from their sports facility to turn it into shelter for illegal immigrants. Over 600 Chicago residents attended a community meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 3 to show support for kids in the Amundsen Park youth football program who are being kicked out of their sports facility. The scene is repeated in other Chicago communities where migrants are taking over gyms and buildings while displacing Black residents. “You want to take the little scraps of resources we have and put us at the bottom of the barrel? That’s not fair!” one woman yelled (Sandra Rose). Graham Allen: This SICKENS me!!! This Chicago YOUTH football program was KICKED OUT of their neighborhood field house so it can become a shelter for ILLEGAL MIGRANTS!!!! The players and over 600 residents showed up to protest!!! If only they didn’t vote for a Democrat in the last election (X).
