Dear John,

It’s time to Go and Vote– many people have been in touch telling me that they haven’t received their voting pack yet, but you don’t need it or an Easyvote card to go to vote. Just go to a voting place with a form of ID and vote. Find your voting place here <[link removed]>.

Two ticks Blue - One for me, Judith Collins and one for National.

National to introduce Parent Visa Boost

National will make it easier for parents and grandparents of migrants to visit New Zealand by introducing a multiple entry Parent Visa Boost. It will be valid for five years with renewal possible for a further five years.

New Zealand needs to attract and retain skilled people and having more pro-parent visa options, makes us a more attractive destination for skilled immigrants. The Parent Visa Boost recognises that many working families would welcome the support of parents or grandparents with childcare and family life, while they work in our communities as skilled doctors, nurses, teachers, engineers and farm managers.

People entering New Zealand on the multiple entry Parent Visa Boost proposed by National, must be sponsored by their children or grandchildren and would not be eligible for NZ Super or other entitlements. They would need private health care insurance and private accommodation.

Under Labour, visa processing times have blown out, migrant exploitation has exploded and they took far too long getting skilled doctors and nurses into the country when we desperately needed them.

National will get our immigration settings right - if we want to attract and retain skilled migrants, we need sensible solutions that make New Zealand more attractive, at the lowest cost to tax payers.

The Economy

New Zealand is in recession, the cost-of-living continues to rise faster than wages, and mortgages are expensive and interest rates are likely to go up again under Labour.

A National government will get our country back on track by rebuilding the economy. Our new economic policies, like those I have backed in the areas of building new businesses based on Science and Technology, will bring in big export dollars. They will result in a more productive economy that means better jobs, higher incomes, affordable mortgages and an affordable cost-of-living.

Greater productivity and more income receipts from overseas means New Zealanders will be able to access the quality public services we all rely on.

National will prioritise spending on essential services. We’ll make sure Kiwi kids leave school with the basics they need to thrive. We’ll reduce health waiting times and we’ll crack down on crime so you and your communities are safer.

National will encourage people to work, effort will be rewarded and we will let you keep more of what you earn with the tax relief we know we can deliver. Our tax cuts will make a huge difference to middle income earners who are currently struggling.

We will build infrastructure for growth and get Mill Road four-laned. We will build a quality, joined-up road network and provide better public transport to end expensive, energy-wasting traffic jams.

Reducing Emissions

We will put effort and investment into electrifying New Zealand with solar and wind power generation and doubling the supply of renewable energy. We want to reduce our reliance on fuel imports. At the moment, transport and energy produce 40 per cent of New Zealand’s emissions. We will cut the red tape that is currently slowing up projects that will deliver cleaner, less expensive power.

As Science and Technology Spokesperson, I envisage greater profitability from technology and innovation.

Chris Luxon and I have announced we will end the ban on gene editing and genetic modification to unlock enormous benefits for climate change, agriculture and health science. New Zealand can be a world leader in reducing agricultural emissions and a National Government will make New Zealand’s biotechnology rules fit for purpose.

We will create a new tech and business environment that encourages investment.

National supports work for a better life

National believes those who can work, should work. A National government will do more to get unemployed people off the Jobseeker benefit and into suitable work. We will introduce consequences for those who persistently do not meet their obligations to seek work.

New Zealanders will always give a helping hand to those who need it, but taxpayers are rightly concerned about the 60,000 more people now on the jobseeker benefit even though jobs are plentiful.

We recognise that intergenerational benefit dependence is holding back the next generation from succeeding and contributing to New Zealand becoming a wonderful place to live and work, once again.
